June 2011: Holstein NI launches Causeway Classic III

Moira venue for elite heifer sale on Wednesday, August 10

Holstein Northern Ireland has announced details of the Causeway Classic Sale III, which takes place at the Pedigree Sales Arena, Moira, on Wednesday, August 10, 2011.

The event is generously supported by sponsors, Genus ABS and United Feeds. The catalogued entry will feature a selection of elite maiden Holstein heifers, all bred from world-class families.

Holstein NI chairman, Alan Cleland said:” “We are delighted to announce details of the Causeway Classic Sale III. Herds in the Province boast some of the finest Holstein bloodlines available, and Holstein NI is privileged to host this event which will act as a shop window for Northern Ireland genetics.”

Holstein NI’s Centenary Anniversary celebrations in 2009 hit the headlines when an unborn heifer calf secured a 20,000gns European record, and 24 lots sold to average 4,000 per head. At last year’s Causeway Classic II prices reached a ceiling of 10,200gns, and following a buoyant trade the elite heifer calf entry averaged 3,900 per head.

Auctioneer Michael Taaffe has been receiving entries from breeders throughout Northern Ireland, and assures prospective purchasers that the catalogue will include an exclusive selection of Holstein genetics.

“The entries received for Causeway Classic 2011 are very impressive. Buyers will be spoilt for choice, as the catalogued entry will combine top sires and great cow families from the UK, Europe and North America. Heifers entered have been bred from some of the finest cows in Northern Ireland,” said Michael Taaffe.

All entries will be rigorously inspected and individually selected by Holstein UK’s breed executive, John Gribbon. Strong emphasis will be placed on pedigree, type, components and future potential, with all heifers boasting at least three generations of EX or VG.
