The Killane dispersal, which has been billed as one of the UK’s most anticipated Holstein sales of 2015, takes place on Wednesday 25th November.
Conducted by Taaffe Auctions, the event will be hosted on-farm by the Perry family at 81 Glenhugh Road, Ahoghill, Co Antrim, BT42 1JD, commencing at 11.00am.
The catalogue includes the entire milking portion of the herd, comprising of 80 cows averaging 9,130kgs at 4.15% butterfat and 3.14% protein, plus 22 springing heifers, nine maiden heifers, seven heifer calves, two service age bulls, and two lots of frozen embryos.
Owned by brothers Austin and David Perry, the Killane Herd is highly regarded throughout the UK and Ireland. It was the winner of Holstein NI’s premier small herd section in 2011, 2013 and 2014.
The Killane Herd received Holstein UK’s Master Breeder Status in 2008.
The prefix is synonymous with deep pedigreed cow families that breed consistently well generation after generation. Its twice daily yields are achieved on a simple commercial system with no diet feeding. Cow are grazed continuously throughout the summer months, receiving concentrates twice daily in the parlour. The average somatic cell count is 41.
Cow families at Killane include: Pretty Pat, Dellia, Tina (Jeffrey-Way), Finesse, Edie, Lucy, Flora, Tui-Onyx, Saber Pansy, and not forgetting the legendary Roberta family – backed by 14 generations of VG and EX dams, and ten generations of star brood cows.
Top AI sires featured in the catalogue include Massey, Sudan, Windhammer, Windbrook, Shottle, Toystory, Wyman, Gerard, Garrett, Guarini and McCormick.
The youngstock on offer includes daughters of internationally acclaimed bulls such as Galaxy, La Bron, Levi, Borussia, Jacey, Uno and Mozygus. Also selling are heifer calves by Troy, Flame and Zanzibar.
Killane Windbrook Roberta 38 VG87-2yr (lot 11) is a potential eighth generation EX by Gillette Windbrook, and sells fresh in her second lactation. Her dam, Killane Hanno Roberta I EX92-5E (lot 12) sells with her River Bridge Co-op Troy heifer calf; while her granddam Killane Outside Roberta 4 EX95-8E 7* LP100 sells (lot 17) with many daughters on offer. The catalogue includes 24 members of the Roberta family.
Also selling is Killane Jango Petula EX92-SP (lot 29), a 7th generation VG/EX from the Mar-Bil Bellwood Orange and Tir-An Neblina cow family. She is due in February to Sandy Valley I Pacific. During her second 305-day lactation she produced 11,877kgs at 4.03% butterfat and 3.35% protein; followed by a third lactation of 12,569kgs at 4.01% butterfat and 3.21% protein. Her dam is a VG86-2yr Oman; while her granddam is an EX Convincer with a lifetime yield in excess of 100,000kgs; and her third dam is an EX92 Alta JR Orie daughter.
Killane Jango Petula sells with her superb fresh calved Massey daughter (lot 25). The Massey has heifer calves and embryos selling by River Bridge Co-op Troy.
