October 2017: Champion tops Dungannon dairy trade at 3,200gns

Pedigree and commercial dairy stock continued to attract a ready market at the monthly Dungannon Dairy Sale hosted by Taaffe Auctions.

Holstein NI secretary John Martin said: “Demand for milking heifers and young cows remains strong with the October show and sale returning a 99% clearance rate. Prices ranged from 1,380gns top a top of 3,200gns.

“The non-pedigree heifer average remained stable with 22 lots selling to level at 1,773gns per head. Pedigree heifers averaged 1,992gns for the 69 lots sold. This represents a decrease of over 300gns on last month, but with 39 more heifers sold. Pedigree cows also saw a drop of 244gns with 16 lots selling to average 1,920gns, compared to 2,164gns for 11 sold in September.”
