November 2012: Gunn’s Ernvale herd dominates  dairy section at Enniskillen

At a recent awards ceremony for Fermanagh County Show, Holstein NI breeder, Seamus Gunn from Corratistune, Derrylin, was unable to carry away his haul of silverware from the ceremony.

Not only did Seamus take the overall 1977 Silver Jubilee Trophy for the highest points across the livestock sections in the Fermanagh County Show 2012, but he also won the ET Green Cup for the bono fide Fermanagh Farmer who had the highest points in exhibits across the entire show.

Seamus has shown dairy stock in Enniskillen for many years and travels to several other shows during the showing season. He began the day by winning first place in the coloured dairy class for heifer any age, moving confidently into the black and white showing classes.

In the popular Holstein Classes the Ernevale Herd took the red ribbon for the best Holstein calf with Ernevale Talent Holiday, and the best Holstein heifer born in 2010 Ernevale Jasper Rosina; the best Cow in Calf Ernevale Gibson Mydeal, and the best Cow in milk went to Ernevale S Storm Mydeal; where he was also presented with a voucher by John Berry of Semex UK

The Ernevale Herd produced another Teemore Babe Champion in 2012 exhibited by daughter Laura Gunn , a lovely heifer Ernevale Talent Holiday sired by Ladino Park Talent with a homebred dam.

Other awards gained on the day included the Ulster Bank PC Cup Best Holstein Cow in calf Ernevale Gibson Mydeal, the United Creameries PC Cup for the Best Holstein Cow/milk Ernevale S Storm Mydeal. The Whiteside Silver Cup for the Best Holstein heifer born in 10,11,12 was won by Ernevale Jasper Rosina

Taking both the White Tomkins and Courage PC Cup for Best Female in show and the Vaughan Trust Fermanagh Dairy Championship 2012 awarded only to a Fermanagh farmer and the crowning glory on the show day the coveted 1902 Silver Farmers Challenge ‘All Ireland’ Trophy.
